My Favorite Healthy Recipes: Solange from Auckland, New Zealand - My Healthy Recipes
From The Kitchn - October 16, 2017

Welcome to Kitchn's new series My Favorite Healthy Recipes, where we show you how real people around the country (and even world) eat "healthy," however they choose to define that for themselves. Maybe you will even find a few recipes to add to your own meal plan.

Name: Solange
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Age: 33
Occupation: Marketing manager
Number of people in household: 2 (my partner and me)

What does healthy mean to you?

Healthy to me is about eating fresh and wholesome ingredients. I tend to keep sugar, gluten, and dairy products at a minimum, but it is not a strict rule. Generally I stick to the edges of the supermarket instead of the aisles, and prefer shopping at specialty providers such as butchers and grocers.

I like to keep a well-stocked spice pantry and always have essentials like mustard, vinegar, and butter for adding flavor to simple dishes. When cooking for myself I will throw together a quick stir-fry or steamed greens with chicken or fish; when my partner is home I like to make a slow-cooked meat with a side of kumara mash and steamed greens.

Part of being healthy for me is making sure I enjoy what I eat. I will not deny myself a treatespecially if it's dark chocolate or red wine. To ensure that I am getting everything my body needs I supplement with Vitamin D and probiotics daily, and other vitamins as needed.
